Baxtermcfaxter, it's almost 18 months since Julia Gillard lost the leadership challenge to Kevin Rudd.
I suspect history will remember her most for joining with Rudd to defeat John Howard, thereafter opportunistically removing Rudd only to struggle for legitimacy as a consequence and at the hands of the vicious and unrelenting Murdoch media.
Gillard will be often referred to as our first female PM who negotiated her way out of a hung Parliament by going back on her election promise not to introduce a Carbon Tax. Sadly for Tony Abbott, she will also be remembered as the person who defined him as 'that man' - even today Abbott is unable to escape the construct described in Gillard's 'misogyny speech'; it's a lens through which he is viewed.
Despite Jeremy Stoljar's marathon and aggressive interrogation of Gillard at the RC, he was unable to reveal anything of consequence whatsoever, Gillard may well therefore be remembered as a martyr:
1. Due to Tony Abbott's campaign targeting Gillard as a person - including her employment as a newbie legal practitioner and the alleged AWU slush fund, the fact that she was an atheist, childless and un-married.
2. Her removal of Rudd as PM and the bloody aftermath wherein her supporters kept on hacking away at Rudd's legacy, only to desert her when she needed them most.
3. Her negotiation of a Carbon Tax - ETS with The Greens and Independents to form government in September 2010.
4. Her expert panel's 'regional solution' to the management of asylum seekers and refugees that Abbott blocked.
5. Rudd's resurrection and the panic attacks that led Abbott to promise the Earth.

Gillard's 'misogyny speech was not new , it was first tried on by a labor woman politician in the UK parliament , the Brits had the common sense and maturity to yawn it off as a non event...Gillard was and is a far better communicator. The author was one in the same, he later came here on a 407? as Gillard's adviser...cant recall his name terry something?
