Good points. There's also the matter of the noise that some say can drive people insane a long way from the source but I found fascinating and quite tolerable even standing at a tower base. Of course any sound will be reduced as efficiency improves because that noise represents energy lost.
I looked up once, at the sound of rushing air, to see an eagle diving right above me. It turned at tree top height, using a small part of its wings extended and maneuvered through those tree tops like a fighter jet chasing its prey.
How often would they miss one of those goliaths standing out in the open? It makes no sense.
