Colincj, one of the first RCs the next ALP government will have to initiate is into the reasons why the AFP investigated allegations later dismissed in court against Peter Slipper, incidents such as the Tent Embassy protest on January 26th, allegations of rape against Bill Shorten from which he was subsequently exonerated and the contrast of those with its steadfast refusal to investigate Bronwyn Bishop's blatant misuse of taxpayers funding.
Many people now perceive that the AFP has been politicised to become another arm of Abbott's militaristic government; one that is increasingly spying on citizens [eg metadata] and censoring information [eg. on asylum seekers].
A future RC will need to investigate all of the detail surrounding Abbott's relationships with them; from his sleeping arrangements to any compensation paid by taxpayers and of course the personal interactions with AFP personnel. The AFP may even have to be completely re-constituted to restore public confidence in it as a non-partisan security organisation.
