THIS COULD BE BIG FOR BILLITON
SACRAMENTO, CA, United States (UPI) -- California`s governor says an Australian energy company has come up with the best liquid natural gas terminal plan among several proposals for the state.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said that BHP Billiton`s plan to build an LNG terminal is at a floating facility several miles offshore from Oxnard in Ventura County is superior to alternative options, the Sacramento Bee reported Friday.
The other proposals would put an LNG terminal in the Port of Long Beach and at the Platform Grace oil facility, offshore from the Los Angeles-Ventura County line. Two other potential LNG locations also under consideration are off the coast of Baja California in Mexico.
"I think the key thing is public safety on all of this," Schwarzenegger said Thursday.
"And I think that we have established ... that the one, for instance (off) Oxnard, where you build it out approximately 11, 12 miles off the shore, could be probably the most safe one for California."
