Gold is easy to move around and it does not have a label. There is really no impediment for the Russians to export gold if they want to.
The amount of oil sitting in source shales is greater than all the oil that has migrated out, been trapped and exploited since the industrial revolution. It's all a matter of cost. Peak oil for conventional resources has come and gone, but peak oil itself could lie anywhere in the future depending on demand and the cost curve.
