I wonder how many people bothered to look closely at the methodology used in the trial.
To me, a 90% effectiveness result means that for every 100 people that received the vaccine and were exposed to Covid, only 10% contracted the virus.
But that's not how they do it.
They give some participants the vaccine and some a placebo, and wait until a number of them get Covid as they go about their lives.
Of the 40,000 + people involved in the study,
94 have now contracted Covid.
And of those, 10% (i.e. 9 or 10) had received the vaccine, while the other 90% hadn't.
Therefore they conclude that the vaccine is 90% effective?
Hmm...
So out of the > 40,000 study participants, this effectiveness rating is based on TEN PEOPLE!
WHO GOT COVID!!
This convoluted approach to rating efficacy (& with a very small sample size) does not fill me with confidence.
I was dubious when I first heard the news, and after looking into it further...
I remain so.
