Exploration companies have a requirement to catalogue and store DD cores, it adds to the Countries exploration and mineral resources database, for reference. They can be deposited with area core Libraries, the are huge ones in Perth and Kalgoorlie if not kept at PIO.
PIO's presentation did say they were re-sampling old cores so they must have them stored for access.
