Melbourne has chilled through its coldest pair of days this late in the year since 1983, reaching a footy-season like 13.2 degrees on Saturday and 14.2 on Sunday.

As a result, Western Bulldogs and Sturt scarves outnumbered safari suits and sleeveless dresses at the Cox Plate and country race meets.

Cooler start to the working week for southwest WA

    23 OCTOBER 2016

Following a nice Sunday to end the weekend, the mercury is set to plunge on Monday as a cold front welcomes the working week...

A cold front is on its way, and once it links up with the trough and drags it over land this evening, the warmth goes with it. Perth is likely to only reach 21 degrees tomorrow, a solid nine degree drop from today's likely maximum...

The cool airmass following this front will keep temperatures below average for most southwestern centres for the first half of the week. With another cold front due on Thursday, it's shaping up to be a cooler than normal end to October for much of southwestern WA.
