Actually, voting informal is the best protest. Your vote does not end up having unintended consequences.
It was the protesters of Fairfax who voted Palmer in, most were LNP voters sick to death of the useless LNP incumbent. Problem was, while jumping out of the frying pan into the fire they took the rest of us with them.
Palmer is in Parliament because the LNP in Queensland were too arrogant, stupid or lazy to install a new candidate to replace the numb nuts who was the incumbent.
Far better if we removed compulsory voting. Then the people who would be motivated to vote are the ones who actually cared about issues, who tried to understand them. Their vote is worth 1000 times that of some tool who randomly places X in a box.
