Pythagoras

    I understand Pythagoras was probably initiated by the ancient Egyptians, having spent many years there after leaving his home on the Greek island of Samos. He founded a new cultural era including a scientific system, modern mathematics, musical theory, philosophy, and hygiene. The author Edouard Schure has credited Pythagoras with this quotation that sums up the cosmos;

    Evolution is the law of life
    Number is the law of the universe
    Unity is the law of god

    Source: Schure, E. (1961).The Great Initiates: A Study of the Secret History of Religions. NY: Rudolf Steiner publications.

    The first two lines would appear to agree with modern findings in science and mathematics, while the last line is still in the hands of philosophers, religious thinkers and atheists.

    It took many years before Darwinism was accepted by scientists and is no longer a topic of discussion by the majority in related fields.
    Number is the law of the universe and scientists would say there are no certainties, especially at the quantum level. Probabilities are used to define events and powerful computers are needed to come up with statistical models analyzing data from machines such as particle accelerators.
    The final line referring to god has raised strong arguments throughout history in favour or against. Maybe at some point in the future we will resolve this issue one way or the other.

    I find it fascinating that he appeared to have a handle on evolution and the essential nature of the universe.
    Any thoughts?
