When I was younger, I used to think that nice cars all belonged to nice people. It then dawned on me that I could walk into Audi, sign a piece of paper, and drive out with a brand new car. Whilst I love a nice new car... I don't see myself being in one any time soon. I am in the process of buying into the first big block family home.
People go on about the technical benefits of renting over buying. Yes, if you are aware of it and use the surplus of your income for a better purpose other than living in a house/lifestyle to match your ego, then great. But I haven't met a single person like that yet. All my school mates who didn't want to leave the leafy greens are still renting there - about 10 years later and I'm buying there. I put down 20% deposit on my first home in a suburb that my shoes would get stolen in if I left them by the front door.
