Last financial year my portfolio (which includes cash balance) grew by 22%, while the previous year I got my timing wrong and made only CPI returns of 2.6%. This year is also likely to be another low return year given how RSG is trending and my conservative stance in October when I was expecting the POG to head back to at least USD1140 in December. I was slow to react to the impact of the US/China trade war and switch in policy by the Fed in November which has given the USD POG some life, cause it is not a rush into gold by Chindians that is currently holding up the gold price.

I consider a return of 15-25% in a year to be very good - have had plenty of stinker years and got very lucky from late 2014 into mid/late 2016 when my portfoliot went up multiples, but that pales into the inconsequential by comparison to your magnificent 105 times gains in 12 months.

Can you be kind enough to throw some light how you achieved such returns? Which companies, how did you pick them, did you have guidance etc. I am a old fellow but willing to learn from anybody, including young Hotcopper guns.

They are solid returns, and if you do that OVERALL any year - I congratulate you!

Mate, I was joking when I said 105x gains (I think most ppl here realise that) as I was merely poking fun at the resident bear.

I have a traditional portfolio of boring stuff which doesn't deserve comment (property, ASX100, div's etc). Then I have the fun stuff that lights your belly (mostly resources but some FX and exotics too), that's where I mostly post and have fun with. Best year in the fun stuff was eight years ago and overall +300% for the year.

I do have neg years too, it's part of it all when you play with high risk.

Anyhow, I read your posts a lot (good insight). You're always way more cautious than me though, but if you're only investing in mining (mostly gold), I do understand why!
