Honestly with the clear fine tubes offered by BTE units along with comfort with smaller units they are basically invisible and unobtrusive. Cheap to manufacture, replacement consumables etc etc. Comfort has many options in regards to fitting without having to have mouldings done. I think much of the stigma of large bulky BTE aides is dissapating with size shrinking and fine clear tube powering in ear speaker hardly noticible.

It is a real mixed bag across different demographics so no one design will fit all and so much in hearing is about marketing and upsell to support the major players expensive network of audiologists .

Some good points there. Another advantage of BTE is that they will fit most ears whereas the NUH existing design depends a lot on the shape of the ear lobe which can be complex. However, they should fit enough ears to take a good market share.

A big problem with BTE though is the audio fidelity. The packaging is fairly narrow so they won't be able to use the 9mm round driver like NUH uses, and which produces such good bass response and a flat response throughout the audio range. They would have to use a balanced armature, probably several if they want a reasonably flat response. But they still won't get the base response and they will have to deal with mechanical resonances throughout the audio range.

Most reviews of the iQBuds Max site the audio as one of the best out there.
