I guess the only benefit to the USA loosing the Vietnam war is that it did not have to rebuild all the damage it did . Just lucky because given that the Vietnam war nearly broke America (it had to remove the gold standard backing the greenback otherwise Fort Knox would have been emptied! So in summary there may be similarities in these 2 wars (both proxy wars) there is a distinct difference in both locations-times-apparent motives of the respective invaders. Of course the big question here is one of economics...not battlefield tactics.... and which side will collapse first economically and/or have the stomach to cop the economic damage. At present: -Mixed reports about Russia ....but economic sanctions dont seem to be having the expected effect -Also mixed reports about the West: Some discontent at grass roots level in Europe despite European Political leaders saying "whatever it takes" Political dogs dinner in the USA where the Republicans dont know whether they are Arthur or Martha and the Dems still feeling the ground in the lead up to an election. One thing for sure, IMO: The USA simply can't keep running a budget deficit of $2 Trillion P/A without the ass falling out of the USD and their bond rates hitting the roof. (US Debt now $34.5 Trillion !) PS: If the US is under the pump with respect to servicing debt , it will likely default on Bonds held by China and spin it as "special economic sanctions" on Chinah !

Are you sure the vaults of Fort Knox have not already been mostly emptied. When was the last honest audit of that facility done. Gold from other countries is also held there. Imagine what that will do to US credibility if some is gone. The subject came up some years back. Pretty sure the French got their gold, but I didn't hear if Germany's gold was returned.
