I agree that the Americans were beaten back to the 38th Parallel
and as such failed to take North Korea which was their objective.
(hence the Korean status quo)

By the way, the USSR imploded economically because of its
excessive spending on armaments during the Cold War of
which US economic sanctions on the USSR was only
one factor...not the determinant.
