Well the entry of Sweden and Finland to NATO has certainly backfired, as any fool could have easily predicted.
US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines indicated the following to US lawmakers on 2 May 2024:
"Finland’s and Sweden’s membership in NATO,” is seen by Russia "as justification for expanding the size of the army.
"There is a view that “Russia is under threat” from NATO and needs to push back against it."
Russia "continues to see NATO enlargement and Western support to Ukraine as reinforcing [a] long-held belief that the United States and Europe seek to restrict Russia.”
