The Russian occupation of Ukraine is pure irredentism. Nothing more, nothing less.
Anybody believing in Putin's argument that Russia and Ukraine are "one nation" and that the collapse of the USSR in '91 was the "disintegration of historical Russia" just needs to ask themselves one question: WHY DO UKRANIANS HAVE THEIR OWN LANGUAGE?
And anybody thinking that this war has anything to do with Western threats to traditional and family values and degradation of society just needs to ask themselves if there is a greater degradation of society than mass murder?
