Russian forces have recently achieved successes on multiple fronts in Ukraine, notes the New York Times.
In recent days, Russian troops have opened a new line of attack in the Kharkov region and have achieved "geographically extensive gains on the eastern front," the newspaper writes.
According to the report, the offensive near Avdeevka has expanded, complicating the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Donetsk front.
On the one hand, American officials believe that many of Ukraine's current territorial losses can be recaptured after American aid begins to arrive, "likely sometime in July," and as Ukraine sends more young soldiers to the front.
On the other hand, "they are hesitant to make predictions about where the front line might be even a few months from now, or whether Zelensky will be able to launch his long-delayed counteroffensive next year."
Washington's greatest concern is that Russia is replacing the weapons destroyed in the first 27 months of the war and is regaining positions: "Russia often starts its wars poorly and finishes them well."
