The topic of science appearing in the sacred writings of the religious has come up again.

If you happen to spend any length of time in a Muslim country the chances are good that you will be presented with a booklet with descriptions of "scientific discoveries" found in the Koran.

Spoiler alert: don't try this trick with the bible in Muslim countries.

Of course this is not unique to the Koran; some bible scholars claim the same about the bible.

For me some of the million dollar questions are:

If these books are the inspiration of the author of the universe then:

    • Why did it take so long to get to where we are in terms of physics (gravity, relativity, thermodynamics, optics, cosmology), and biology (genetics) and so on?
    • Why is our knowledge still so fragmented, for example, between the very large and the very small (quantum physics)?
    • Why do we still not have a theory for everything - instead our science is still fragmented?
    • Why can't we cure so many diseases like many cancers and genetic diseases?

Sadly it appears that these "scientific discoveries" are retrofitted to the text (with imagination) after they are made by scientists.
