Its all smoke and mirrors in the stock market.
Seems short selling is still ongoing but judging by the volumes, I doubt that it's only retail buying up these shares. My guess and it's obviously a guess is that the entities buying these shares are most likely lending these same shares to the shorters who are actually digging themselves deeper and deeper into a hole. They think they are the smart money, and in many cases they may be, but WBT is not your average asx listed stock and the shorters are dealing with insto's with way more knowledge of what is at play.
The SP is up from $2.80 to over $4.00 now and the shorts have only increased, the recent shorts are already losing and by weeks end we will probably have 13million shorts that need to be covered and my guess is the SP will be higher at the end of the week.
this is shorts as of 18th, 12,741,669 and we had over 345,000 shorted yesterday
