    It would be great if that could be true - Australia is far too centralized. But, on the East Coast, from below the NSW/Vic border to well above Brisbane, the Great Dividing range ensures that the big populations have to be east of it. Otherwise, there would be insufficient water to sustain even moderately sized population densities. SA has its Goyder Line, limiting population to the SE of that state. Victoria, don't know. But the Geography of Population does seem dependent on the geography of climate and water supply. Except in the North there seems to be plenty of water, but it's seasonal and the weather rather hot. Nevertheless, Qld is the most decentralised state.

    Don't know how it works in WA, but there is a lot of desert and a seasonally wet NW.
