But this is a big one in the minds of Australians, rightly or wrongly. If Labor, under pressure form the Greens, try to water down the existing policy in any way whatsoever it will be seen by the electorate (and the people smugglers) as a weakness and that it would probably start the boats coming again. I don't think anyone wants to go through that all over again. Once is enough.
