Don't discount the role of ETF's and index funds, which need to track the market, there's more people in these things than ever before and if the markets down, they need to liquidate, which cause more people to liquidate which means they have to sell more. It creates some momentum.
For the investors who don't like investing in these funds because you buy everything, this is the time to pony up and take advantage of price mis-matching.
