If only the Queensland government could tell the truth. Most of the additional coal royalties raised goes indirectly to Victoria. How? When Queensland collects more royalties, the Federal government says you need less from the GST pie. This means more GST for other states. Victoria is the biggest bask case, so they get even more. The Queensland government and people are still high-fiving each other because they raised more revenue.
The Victorian government is probably laughing at the Queensland government for taking so much from Queensland miners and then handing it over to Victorians through GST.
In the meantime, big miners are turning their back on Queensland because of the royalty. In one decision, the government has managed to subsidise Victoria and cut investment into Queensland. Just don't tell the Queensland voters.
