My understanding is that internet sites like Google etc. claim their revenue from advertising which is directly proportional to the number of hits or views. They still have turnover from this revenue.
What would Google's local costs be? 5% of revenue maybe. A 1% turnover tax would be irrelevant compared to the notional 30% of profit due for company tax. For a busy trading company it would be an unfair impost though.
