Of course I can't tell if the Libyans are better of than they were under the brute Gaddafi. They have been given the chance of a much better life, and it seems, so far, they, and only they, have blown the opportunity.
I agree the people you mentioned were not, strictly speaking, Russians, which makes the Russian seem even more stupid, since they allowed a non Russian to commit such atrocities on its citizens.
