What is the last censuses percentage of Asians who are residents of this country.
That what I think was the gist of pallister's post.
In this article Asian-born Australians refer to residents of Australia (i.e. persons who have lived or intend to live in Australia for one year or more) who were born in any of the three Asian regions as classified in the 1998 Australian Standard Classification of Countries for Social Statistics
(cat. no. 1269.0). These are:
- Southeast Asia - comprising Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam;
- Northeast Asia - comprising China, Hong Kong, Japan, the Koreas, Macau, Mongolia and Taiwan; and
Although the term Asia applies to a broad range of countries including some in the Middle East and the former USSR, the data in this article are limited to people born in the countries outlined above.
- Southern Asia - comprising Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
2000 stats: Asian born 16.9% who reside in Australian, plus Australian born Asians and then throw in the tourists.
No wonder Pallister thinks we are turning into another Hong Kong.
This is well past the 2% by 2020 composition of Asians forecasted by our pollies.
