It's not just BYD; the entire industry in China is set to compete with western car manufacturers and based on what we have seen in virtually every other sector where manufacturing is involved, Chinese logistics, scale and cost will beat out almost every other location.
See this from the Carexpert visit to the Beijing Auto show.........quality at least on the face of it is not an issue, it's the reputation that they are going to have to build up (and some of that is going to be alleviated with long term warranties)

EVs in the China new car market already make up north of 40% of sales........economics (fuel prices) along with carrots (govt mandates/incentives) in Aus and Europe is going to help drive EV sales in those markets
