If you subscribe to that manipulation theory on oil then wouldn't that be smashing their energy independence policies? I have read that shale gas because of the nature of each well reserve (limited compared to crude) means that the shale explorers are constantly drilling to get more production leveraging it on existing cash flow to fund those new debts. With 80$ oil I think shale gas is not sustainable in US.
