    Those two bombs were wholly on the Emperor's head. Not long before, there was the fire bombing of Tokyo which killed 100,000 people. This was meant as message: All is lost. But crazy bravado would not accept the facts.

    The story is that the Yanks are still awarding Purple Hearts, coined for that invasion. How could any sane person expect America accept the grief of millions of sweethearts, parents, wives and children, because a crazy, spoilt old man could not accept the facts?

    The Americans estimated a qtr million casualties and those pics suggest that is true, but japanese deaths would have been at least ten times greater. It really was a win/win result.
