Five Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers have launched defamation action against the ACT government and its former Director of Public Prosecutions, Shane Drumgold, over a complaint he made about the way officers handled the prosecution of Bruce Lehrmann.

In documents filed to the Federal Court, the officers claim they were defamed in a letter Mr Drumgold wrote to the ACT Chief Police Officer (CPO) on November 1 2022, in which he complained he had felt pressured by police not to pursue Mr Lehrmann's prosecution.

Officers, Marcus Boorman, Scott Moller, Michael Chew, Trent Madders and Emma Frizzell, have all made claims for differing amounts of compensation, which total $1.415 million.

Each officer is making claims for aggravated damages.
