    You can check this for yourself. First, go to https://uniprot.org. Type "syncytin-1" into the search bar at the top. The top hit is the human protein, with accession ID Q9UQF0. Copy that ID, then go to https://blast.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Blast.cgi?PAGE=Proteins. This site will let you search for "homologous" (that is, similar in sequence) proteins in any known genome. Paste the ID you copied in the box labelled "Enter accession number(s), gi(s), or FASTA sequence(s)". Under the heading "Choose Search Set", in the box labelled "Organism" type "SARS-CoV-2". Then scroll to the bottom and click the button labelled "BLAST". Wait a little for it to do its thing, and you'll get a result looking like this:

    In other words, neither the spike protein nor any other part of SARS-CoV-2 is even remotely homologous to syncytin-1.
