Here it is again - someone on HC yesterday mentioned the Oz 'way of life' - I asked - what exactly is that - I didn't see an answer. Now - the legendary visionary Peter Dutto Dutton says''Mr Dutton also suggested migrants should "leave" if they do not "subscribe to the Australian way of life". so, again - what is this now 'Australian way of life' if we're going to start chucking people out of Australia because they should not be here because they aren't engaging in our' way of life' - we should write very clearly what that is so ------------ what is it Here is what I remember about the Aussie 'way of life' that I remember from my early observations of Aussie life - in white Australia, some memories burned into the brain forever - social gatherings with lots of food and a keg of beer - opening presents on xmas day - drunks in the street - seen one punch drunks in the street laying a person out flat - bouncers in Kings Cross standing whilst there were a couple of unconscious people lying on the footpath - football games - crazy people screaming in the street or leaning out of windows - cars that always smelled differently - the shittiest tv I can ever remember - work and jobs and work places that were as boring as bat's poop - trips to the gold coast in cars in monstrous heat, traffic jams, driving for hours to sit and slow roast on sand and suffer sunburn - being in wars where we had no idea why we were there, but we were - expectations, to get some kind of job, to get a girl, to get married and have a family - dreams of 'other places' - sometimes in Australia and sometimes in ?? over there there's a lot more- but, honestly ---------- nothing in that lot that I can say ------- oh, this 'way of life' business is precious ------- what I do know is that when I look back - that what we did have that was precious - has long long long gone --------- freedom to move about in almost any place and a lot of other freedoms - that's gone - and it's people who are in political parties like Dutton who have not only allowed that to happen - but, in many instances --------- MADE it happen so - I wait to see what others think this 'Australian way of life' is

trouble is, simple populist concepts like “way of life” avoid and ignore the complications of society, and tend towards nationalistic, xenophobic notions of “australianness” I have no idea how to avoid it, it’s just what we get with mediocre leaders. and I don’t claim to be a better Leader myself…
