There are some simply incapable of understanding the word "hope"

Fairly stock standard terms. And Donald Trump uses the term in the stock standard way.

Point is:- It is still not clear whether he does have or does not have those tapes.

Why would he bring the tapes out now? The battle with Comey is won. Trump is smart enough to realise you never fight a battle you have already won. If he has the tapes, he'll never say so now.
