Toyota, famously well behind in the EV (not hybrid) production stakes have been making SSB announcements for years but they never seem to be any closer to actually producing one. Now Nissan have got into the act as well, conveniently for about 4 years time when no one will remember the original announcement.

There are hundreds of companies, universities and other research institutions around the world feverishly working on SSBs, many of them have prototypes working in the lab but so far even limited production still seems to be a bridge too far so IMO economical mass production won't be anytime soon. When SSBs do arrive in large numbers costing about the same as current Lithium batteries no other power source will be able to compete for mobile applications, ICE, Hydrogen and all other battery types will just fade away into history.
