I liked an expanded version of the Malaysian solution, but we take more asylum seekers. If you have authentic papers, not necessarily passport and travel documents you get put closer to the front of the line. Also if you are willing to take work in parts of the country where workers are needed you can be resettled quickly. It may even be possible in some circumstances to have some people resettled and working while their papers are being processed.
The current policy makes no sense on any level. It is morally wrong and economically short sighted. There are parts of our country desperate for motivated workers.Well here they are. These are the taxpayers of the future.
It is only a matter of time before turning, towing or boarding boats in international waters will be shown to be piracy and illegal. The current policy is holding on by a thread within our legal system ,it will not stand up to international scrutiny.
Australia is a big country with plenty of room for good hardworking people.
