Police responding to threat to disrupt proceedings at Sydney court
Police launched an operation at Sydney's Downing Centre Court complex on Thursday morning following information that a number of hearings would be disrupted.
It was believed the operation related to a trial involving a notorious south-western Sydney criminal who had a matter in the court on Thursday morning.
The accused man has been described by senior police officers as being part of a group that is "more deadly and daring than the infamous Sydney crime group Brothers 4 Life".
Officers from the NSW Police Public Order and Riot Squad in full protective gear were seen entering and leaving the building, which comprises much of the the block between Liverpool and Goulburn streets and Elizabeth and Castlereagh streets.
Five riot squad trucks and a BearCat armoured vehicle circled the building.
A PolAir helicopter was also deployed.
