Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Adacel Launch State-of-the-Art Airport Simulation Facility
New Simulator and SimPartner(TM) Program Allows Airports to Optimize Airport Design and Safety
Wednesday September 25, 12:00 pm ET
MONTREAL & DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2002-- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Adacel Inc., have launched a new simulator system that dramatically impacts the way air traffic control (ATC) training is conducted.
The state-of-the-art SimPartner(TM) program allows Embry-Riddle students, and personnel from Florida airports, to train in one of the most advanced control tower simulators in the world. The highly versatile simulator will allow students, FAA controllers, pilots, and airport operations and planning specialists to validate and assess current and potential operational procedures, especially in the area of safety.
"Embry-Riddle is pleased to offer this exceptional teaching tool to our students and to the airport community," says Dr. Frank Richey, Chair of Applied Aviation Sciences at ERAU. "Air traffic controllers can benefit from working with Embry-Riddle's ATC faculty and by becoming familiar with advanced simulator software."
The new 180-degree simulator, developed by Adacel, provides users a 3D view of a highly realistic and accurate model of an airport, where weather conditions, visibility, fleet mix, aircraft flight dynamics and total aircraft traffic load can be customized to the needs of the individual airport. The Embry-Riddle simulator uses the latest generation of Adacel MaxSim ATC simulation software, including Adacel's industry leading voice recognition software for total control of aircraft and vehicles within the simulator. The simulator is also capable of testing future runway/taxiway configurations, runway incursion analysis and mitigation studies, and pilot/controller communications studies.
"Adacel's SimPartner(TM) Program is greatly enhanced by Embry-Riddle's participation. Their faculty bring a deep knowledge of aviation and existing relationships with the airport community to the partnership," says Lionel Leveille, President & CEO of Adacel. "With the addition of Embry-Riddle as a SimPartner(TM), simulation services are now available to airports in the Southeastern United States."
Embry-Riddle, which offers a bachelor of science degree in Air Traffic Management (ATM), was the first university in the world to feature the new Adacel system. The U.S. Air Force and the FAA have now purchased the same system. The university's FAA sanctioned ATM degree program is housed in Embry-Riddle's new $13.5 million, 75,000 sq. ft., Aviation Building.
