Tethyan Copper Company Limited’s regional exploration at the Reko Diq Copper Project in Pakistan continues to gather momentum, with drilling at the H8 Porphyry Complex – located midway between the H4 Starter Project and the massive Western Porphyries resource, intersecting continuous zones of copper-gold mineralisation over widths of up to 400 metres.

The emerging copper producer said on Friday that the results highlighted the potential to delineate a substantial near-surface mineral resource at the H8 Complex, which is strategically located in relation to the proposed initial mining operation at H4 and the second-phase development of the Western Porphyries. Results from a further 13 drill holes completed at the H8 Complex are awaited, which will be used together with the results announced on Friday as the basis for a resource estimate.

The H8 Complex lies only two kilometres east-southeast of the Western Porphyries mineral resource, and approximately two kilometres west-southwest of the H4 Project, on which Tethyan is currently in the advanced stages of a Bankable Feasibility Study.

The results of the first four holes and one diamond tail, an extension of an earlier shallow drill-hole, completed by Tethyan earlier this year have just been received, indicating extensive moderate-grade copper and gold mineralisation continuous from surface to a drilled vertical depth of 375 metres. The mineralisation remains open below 375 metres.

Tethyan’s Managing Director, Mr David Moore, said the continuous nature of the mineralisation at the H8 complex and its distinct surface magnetic signature indicated the potential to delineate a substantial mineral resource, subject to the results of the final 13 drill holes.

“Reko Diq continues to yield surprises,” Mr Moore commented. “While these grades would not justify a stand-alone mine development, this could certainly represent bread and butter ore to an established operation at the Western Porphyries, with mineralisation right from surface and only the direct mining and processing costs to pay for. The indications are that H8 could develop into a substantial new resource of moderate grade copper-gold mineralisation”.
