I lost a pair of prescription glasses in europe last year.
Wife paid insurance prior to the trip. Insurance company completely intransigent - called glasses personal effects not luggage.
I paid for the trip using AMEX, and therefore had some default insurance. They were excellent - excess was high but processing the claim were sensational!
