There is a saying, 'truth is stranger than fiction' and here we have possibly the greatest liar in the world starting a social media company called 'Truth'.
This is beyond parody.
However, taking actions which would be recognised as parody, if concocted by say, a cartoonist to ridicule Trump, is one of his trademarks.
Somehow, this tactic spikes the guns of critics, who have nowhere to go in ridiculing things that are already unashamedly ridiculous.
Social media has allowed grifters and State actors interested in destabilising Western democracies to leverage the credulity of hundreds of millions of comprehension-deficient people from hundreds of countries, brought together and sustained by echo-chambers of sensational nonsense.
This effect has been encouraged by the serial failings, untruthfullness and highly-partisan coverage by mainstream media outlets, addicted to sensationalism.
This has narrowed the credibility gap between crackpots and reputable journalism and generated mistrust so widespread that for many it is easier to just 'throw out the MSM media baby with the bathwater'.
Of course, 'reputable journalism' is mostly confined behind paywalls, so the difference between free sites is even narrower, since they are each relentlessly click-baiting to attract readers.
In this environment, it makes sense to me to create an enormous 'alternative facts' social media company, because opinions, propaganda and sheer nonsense seem to be overtaking 'fact' (as that term was once understood) as the basis for forming world-views.
