Mr abbott did some wonderful and courageous things in stopping the boats. His refusal to enter into partnership with the ALP on the Malaysia solution is not a good moment.
Anyway the refugees ended up on Naurau etc, and it looked like they were going to rot (mentally) there. Both the ALP and LNP seemed agreed on that.
When Mr Turnbull became PM, he had to admit that this was brutal but necessary.
Meanwhile he was busy working on the possible solutions to this issue. Most were convinced thbat there was none.
After some time Mr Turnbull realised that the USA was in the same boat as Australia. They both had refugees stationed on foreign soil that had been told would never set foot on the mainland.
Very few knew of this situation.
Mr Turnbull saw a glimmer of hope in this.
And the glimmer became a flashing light.
He and Mr Obama sat down and nutted out a deal that gave hope of a better life. A deal was done.

You keep making up stories and excuses for Turnbull - its time to take your blinkers off. Wake up - he's a dud - utterly hopeless and incompetent.
