While they stay in the background and monitor us from a distance, we'll probably be allowed to continue as normal, as long as we don't start firing our nukes at each other.
If they irrefutably make themselves known publicly, it would be such a major shock to the ignorant and the deniers that riots and chaos would ensue, and it might also indicate that our time is up.
I just can't see it being a good thing.
