The idea of 'real' versus 'unreal' is a false dichotomy. History is full of weird things that came into existence when a threshold number of people believed them to be true. eg. the Fatima miracles. Was it a real phenomenon? That's the wrong question.
We create UFOs when enough people believe in their existence collectively. If we stop believing in them, they disappear. It all happens in the dream state, just as 'consensus reality' is a dream state.
