Gold may not be much use, but copper & zinc might be. One of the reasons door knobs & door plates used to be made of brass, particularly in hospitals, besides its malleability, was that viruses & bacteria cannot survive on it, hence prevents a lot of virus contagion. Stainless steel is good to keep sterile but is only as effective as the cleaning agent. With all the super bugs about, look out for a switch back to good old brass.
