AFP - Representative Bob Ney, chairman of the committee on House Administration, has ordered that the term `French fries' be removed from all restaurant menus in the three House office buildings and replaced with freedom fries.
Similarly, the popular breakfast of French toast will now be called freedom toast, Ney said.
"This action today is a small, but symbolic effort to show the strong displeasure of many on Capitol Hill with the actions of our so-called ally, France," Ney and colleague Walter Jones, a North Carolina Republican, said in a statement on the menu change.
The move reflects the anti-French sentiment among some lawmakers who feel Paris is betraying its ally Washington by disagreeing with the Bush administration on how to disarm Iraq.
France has said it will use its veto to block a draft UN resolution opening the way to war on Iraq, raising the stakes even further in a crisis that has divided Western powers.
How dare the French disagree with the administration!! This should teach them!
