Los Angeles: A polling station in Azusa, California has been locked down after shots were fired nearby.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that at least one person has died and three others have been wounded by a "heavily armed" gunman. It is unclear whether any police officers were injured.
A polling station in Azusa has been locked down after reports of a shooting.
Few details were released about the shooting, which occurred sometime after 2pm local time in a residential neighbourhood in the area of Fourth Street and Orange Avenue, said Officer Jerry Willison of the Azusa Police Department.
"This is a very volatile and critical situation," Officer Jerry Willison from the Asuza Police Department said.
Azusa Union School District issued a lockdown for Slauson Middle and Mountain View Elementary schools about 2.15 pm, officials said. A nearby daycare centre and preschool was also locked down.
Police said the people were wounded by gunfire near the polling station, but there was no indication the incident is election-related.

CNN reported Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Gustavo Medina has confirmed one death near an Azusa voting site.
A police helicopter took at least two shooting victims to hospital, CNN said.
Police are searching one suspect.
