At the end of the day this wasn't a case of insufficient generation.

Very true - thanks to reliable coal base load - the very system systematically being destroyed. eek.png

...wreaked havoc on transmission and distribution lines some of which was built in the 1960's.

Just goes to show how these types of systems can and have provided longevity. wink.png

The amount and level of power concentration that can be provided by a coal based system on a given parcel of land cannot be replicated by the 'green' renewable solar or wind systems. The age of existing coal based systems shows just how robust and reliable these systems are - not in one's wildest imagination can solar panels nor windmills could match such credentials.

Had all the investment money thrown at renewables been used to build new latest technology coal plants with upgraded towers and associated equipment withstanding higher rated wind conditions, any weather induced risks to power interruptions could have been minimized - but not totally eliminated. Can't change the weather but can learn to live with whatever it throws - even as at times it fires missiles.

Any 'green' renewable systems have their associated risks but since bagging coal is the current fashion trend, all is well in green land or so some think. As to hip pockets and 24/7 reliable power supply - do prefer brown or black - the alternative is a bit too green and turning out to be very expensive, unreliable and almost unaffordable. Then to add further insult, one may be asked to alter the air con temperature settings.

As far as power generation, at times of peak demand there seems to be insufficient capacity - is it any wonder as with population increases where are increases in providing more base load - ie: when was the last time one heard of a new coal fired power station built?? Instead, they do away with more Hazelwoods. what.png Such are the powers to be. AIMO smile.png
