There should be more public votes for sure and especially on contentious issues like SSM because then people have to accept the majority vote and that diminishes their arguments that it was imposed by government and not supported by the majority. Interesting the independents who talk the talk about democracy before being elected but then come into the political fold and want to shut out the public from voicing an opinion.
