Actually Ahjay, I think quite a few people, mainly in the cultural elite "goats cheese circle" areas, disappointingly see this SameSex marriage as the main issue at the moment.

That is telling about how selfish people have become, since the basic building block of the successful democratic countries has been the traditional family that has been normal for more than 4000 years, with most commonly an avowed monogamous long term (til death do us part) committed heterosexual couple. We know that more marriages end in divorce than ever before and that this exacts an enormous toll on our legal system with an army of lawyers feeding off the suffering of others.

Still , traditional family structures are the safest and healthiest place to raise children. Modern day progressives a.k.a."Cultural Marxists" know this and attack with gender fluidity indoctrination dressed up as anti-bullying, and abortion renamed women's reproductive rights.

Old fashioned Marxists like Soviet Russia specifically targeted traditional families as a way to hasten the
breakdown of capitalist systems which they loathe.

In a pluralistic democratic society, I support that same sex attracted people do have a right to a registered Union of same sex participants (no more than 2) to provide a legal framework to arbitrate property disputes and spouse to spouse inheritance etc. Cultures that have embraced same sex relationships have always failed- Sodom and Gomorrah, Greece, Rome, -but who am I to say they cannot try another time. There are some serious health issues arising from sodomy, and I cannot see any probability of successfully legislating to mandate safe sex.

Even if a plebiscite was supportive of SSM, which I doubt, (but would accept an AEC run Secret ballot with properly framed question ie "Should marriage remain as between two people of opposite sex?", not "should the parliament allow any two people to marry?", I would hope that as a minimum safety precaution our legislators would advocate waiting 50 years to systematically observe the long term effects on population mental and physical health in societies like Sweden and UK that have had SSM the longest.

Anyone who simply could not wait could meanwhile be in a Civil Union or if they are so set on it, emigrate. I will resist attempts to have our governments forced to recognise same sex marriages from other countries, on same basis that polygamous marriages are already not allowed (apart from Centrelink turning blind eye)

But to make this more common by legally equating it with the proven traditional marriage is at best reckless, and deeply offensive many to a large number of people having a faith in a God, who created and loves all of us (including sinners) and designed marriage with a solemn purpose. SSM opens up a whole new stolen generations issue as many gays would frequently wish to have children of "their own", by a combination of methods, all of which introduce at least one other person into the resulting child's relationships, and this is outside any consideration of cost, which tends to creep onto the taxpayer docket in our inflated-cost socialist medical system.

Turnbull knows he best tread carefully, but my issue with him is his lack of moral compass, meaning he is lost on how to navigate. Abbot had a compass, but seriously lacked a few skills, and next leader of Libs is yet to emerge.
